Did you know that what you eat plays a HUGE role on whether we bronze vs burn on our skin?

I didn’t… 🙁

And spent YEARS spraying chemical laden carcinogenic concoctions onto my largest absorbent organ (the SKIN), and it wasn’t until one of my closest relatives was diagnosed with skin cancer and I KNEW that if I didn’t pay more attention, I was next. First off, anything we put on our skin jumps into the carpool lane of our blood stream in less than a minute, in transit to the liver for processing, ie our garbage disposal system…hence clogging up the system like a backed up sink. And what we say in Chinese medicine about a clogged up liver is:

A Congested Liver is THE MAIN REASON contributing to deaths in America today!

So, I have 5 tips for you to both ‘protect you' from the skin's negative effects and also how to take advantage of the GOOD stuff it offers (ahem VITAMIN D – which 70% of Americans are deficient in…and there is NO Vit D pill in any amount that will offer the ORGANIC rays the sun does).

#1 Buffet to BRONZE – ie eat your sunscreen.

A large part of natural sun protection is eating an anti-inflammatory diet. I made THIS VIDEO for you to learn more about what exactly that means 🙂

This type of diet will also be beneficial for many other health conditions, as 95% + of diseases and conditions (YES including depression, alzheimers, obesity and cancer as examples) are tied to inflammation.

Foods to Avoid

  • processed foods
  • vegetable oils (such as PUFA'S)
  • grains
  • sugars

Foods to Eat

  • HEALTHY saturated fats (like coconut oil)
  • Foods rich in omega-3s (fish, etc)
  • Load up on leafy greens
  • 2+ tablespoons of tomato paste daily (check your cans to be sure there's no added sugar and be sure they're BPA free)

#3 Time to sun bathe

Best times to get sun is 30-60 minutes from 10am-2pm WITHOUT sunscreen.  AND ditch the sunglasses, your eyes need to absorb D from the rays too (Crows feet are sexy)…Mark's Daily Apple explains HERE.

#4 Block harmful rays naturally

For long term sun exposure use natural harmful ray blockers such as THIS.

#5 Protect your skin AFTER your playtime!

And as to that GOD AWFUL coral destroying, cancer causing, endocrine disrupting slather slop we refer to as ‘sunscreen', here are 5 reasons to stop using it:

  1. They contain chemicals that are known carcinogens and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC). A 2000 Swedish study found that higher rates of melanoma occurred in those who USED sunscreen versus those who sun bathed without.
  2. Women who avoid sunbathing during the summer are TWICE AS LIKELY TO DIE as those who sunbathe daily, according to a MAJOR June, 2014 study in Sweden featured in The Independent (UK).
  3. Sunscreen BLOCKS the body’s ability to produce vitamin D3 from the sun’s UVB rays, which is by far the best form of vitamin D.
  4. There is NO conclusive evidence that sunburns lead to cancer…or that sunscreens protect against melanoma, or that increased sun exposure increases the risk of melanoma.
  5. Environmentally, she notes: “In areas where there has been much exposure to ED [endocrine disrupting] chemicals, coral and other sea populations have died off and the prevalence of dual-sexed fish has risen.”
